Slovene is predominantly spoken in the region. German is still widespread due to the historically local population. - Prekmurska gibanica is a kind of layered pastry with poppy seeds, walnuts, apples, raisins and quark fillings. Coming from Prekmurje, it has become a specialty all over Slovenia.
- Bujta repa is a traditional stew made from beet, pork and millet from the Prekmurje region.
