Pornichet is a city of Loire Atlantique.

Understand

Shared between Saint Nazaire and Escoublac, Pornichet is, in the middle of XIXe century, a small village of 400 inhabitants living mainly from salt harvesting, fishing and agriculture.

The popularity of sea bathing will radically transform this village. This strange phenomenon of taking short baths in the sea at a set time and enjoying the sea air, was at the time more akin to a medical cure than a hobby. It is intended only for a wealthy clientele who can access vacations. The aristocrats and businessmen of Nantes, Angers and even Paris are the first to discover the pornichétin shore. The arrival of the railway in 1879 will facilitate the arrival of new vacationers. The local population is growing rapidly. With nearly 1,200 inhabitants, Pornichet becomes a municipality on , now a member of the CARENE (Agglomeration community of the Nazaire region and the estuary).
