Loire-Atlantique is a department in the French region Pays de la Loire and has the serial number 44. Historically, the department belongs to BrittanyHowever, when the French regions were created in 1982, historical affiliation was not taken into account. The département borders on the départements in the north Morbihan and Ille-et-Vilaine, in the east to the département Maine-et-Loire, in the south to the département Vendée and in the west to the Atlantic.
