Châteaubriant is a french city in the department Loire-Atlantique in the region of Pays de la Loire. But it belongs to the historical region of Brittany.
background
It is the capital of the arrondissement of Châteaubriant and the administrative seat of the canton of Châteaubriant.
The old town of Châteaubriant was founded next to the castle (Château Briant) in the 11th century. The castle was built at the beginning of the 11th century on behalf of the Count of Rennes, by the Lord of Brient. It lies on the banks of the Chère and should also serve as the headquarters of one of the nine baronies of Brittany. The castle formed together with Fourgères, Ancenis and Vitrè the chain of fortifications on the eastern border of the then independent Duchy of Brittany.

The third largest cattle market in France is also located here. Around 2000 cattle are sold every Wednesday. So it is not surprising that the specialty of the Châteaubriant (330-400g, pink roasted beef fillet from the center piece) really comes from here.
