Porretta Terme is about 60 km southwest of Bologna in the valley of the river Reno. On Jan. 1, 2016 Porretta Terme With Gragnalione to Comune di Alto Reno Terme merged, this in turn is part of the Metropolitan city of BolognaThe thermal springs of Porretta were already used in Roman times. Legend has it that an exhausted ox fell from a source at Monte Sassocardo drank and regained strength. Subsequently, Porretta was named Bagni della Porretta (Bad Porretta).
