Kościan district - poviat in Poland, in Greater Poland Voivodeship, created in 1999 as part of an administrative reform. Its seat is in the city Kościan (geographical coordinates of the district capital: 52 ° 04'40 ″ N 16 ° 36'12 ″ E).

It is located in the south-western part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.

Area 722.53 km² inhabited by 78 025 inhabitants (data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland from 2009). Urbanization in the district of 46.5%, population density 108 inhabitants per km².

The national road No. 5 runs through the poviat Wroclaw - Bydgoszcz and the railway line Poznan - Wroclaw.

The area with little diversified landscape is located in several regions: the lowest is the Central Obra Valley, the more diversified part in the south is part of the Sława Lake District. The remaining part covers the moraine plateau of the Kosciańska Plain and the hilly Krzywińskie Lake District with several lakes.

A poviat with low forest cover (14%), relatively good soils and high agricultural culture.

A significant part is occupied by the General Dezydery Chłapowski.

By the "Wonieść" artificial reservoir (777 ha), tourists and holidaymakers rest in many holiday resorts.

There are numerous monuments in the poviat: manors, palaces and religious buildings. This includes Szołdrski Palace in Champion, the palace complex in Racot and the park and palace complex in Turwi as well as the gothic parish church in Kościan, the gothic church of St. Nicholas in Krzywin, the Romanesque-Gothic church of St. Leonard in Lubin and the gothic church of St. st. Peter and Paul v Rąbiniu.
