Praslin is the second largest island of the Seychelles. Its surface is 38 km², one more thanLipari Island.
Its original name was Isle de Palmes with reference to the coconut palms that grow luxuriant and spontaneous on its land. It is a particular variety whose scientific name is Lodoicea maldivica present, as well as in the Seychelles, also at Maldives is Sri Lanka.
Dense palm groves cover the flanks of the "Vallée de Mai", a listed nature reserve UNESCO of the World Heritage Sites.
Territories and tourist destinations
Pretending to go around the island starting from the north and arriving at the airport we will meet the following locations:
Other destinations
- Anse Boudin - Located in front of the Curieuse island, Anse Boudin is the first beach you come across after leaving Anse Lazio behind.
- Anse Georgette - Beyond the airport and at the north-western end of Praslin is Anse Georgette, an exclusive beach to access which you must be a guest of the hotel complex Lemuria Resort. To access it you must book by calling (usually if you ask, your hotel will do it for you) at the Lemuria Resort the day before. Enter the Lemuria along the large golf course and they will let you in by saying the name of the reservation. The beach can be reached in 40 minutes on foot.
- Anse La Blague - At the eastern end of Praslin, Anse La Blague can be reached via a branch off the main road.
- Anse Lazio - Referred to as "the most beautiful in the realm" by tourism experts, Anse Lazio lies in the wide bay of Chevalier which opens onto the northern coast. Reachable with a walk of about an hour and a half from Anse Volbert.
- Anse Possession - On the Pasquerie bay.
- Anse Volbert - Located opposite the islet of Chauve Souris, on the stretch of coast called "Côte-d'Or", Anse Volbert attracts many tourists due to its hotels and restaurants.
- Baie St Anne - Located on the southern bay of the same name, 'Baie St Anne is the southern entrance to the Vallée de Mai nature reserve. A secondary road allows you to continue along the coast passing through Anse Marie-Luise and Consolation.
- Great Anse - Located on the southwestern side, Grande Anse is the first place you come across after crossing the Vallée de Mai. It centers a large number of tourists. After Grande Anse is the airport runway e Anse Kerlane, beautiful but unfortunately gnawed little by little by the action of the sea.
