Preah Mias is a place in the heart of Mondulkiri. Here, gold is still being mined with simple means.

Although the journey is only 40 kilometers long, the route takes 4 hours even in the dry season. With a moped or a special 4WD van you can cope with the really tough tour. From Senmonorom you take the road to Mimong. From there it is only 6 kilometers to the place. On the way you pass a bridge where a toll is due (KHR 2000). Preah Mias cannot be reached by car.
Tourist Attractions
There is a big hole in the middle of the place. Here you can watch how people mine gold with the simplest means. To do this, the rock is removed and the gold is filtered out by machine.

There is a guest house where you can get a room with a shower for $ 5. However, you cannot lock the room. Unfortunately, the operators don't speak English either.
