Although, like any other province in the country, the vast majority of people speak Japanese, there are significant numbers of Spanish-speakers (more than 5,000, the majority being Peruvians) in the western part of the province, around Kakegawa, Iwata Y Hamamatsu, and even more Portuguese speakers (more than 26,000 Brazilians) in the same area.
