Puerto Yungay is a small ferry port in the southernmost section of the trunk road Carretera Austral between Villa O'Higgins and Cochrane. It is located on a Pacific fjord in the Región de Aysén in Chile. You have to cross this to continue your journey with the southernmost ferry connection of the trunk road

Ferry connection to Rio Bravo
The ferry connection is operated by the state, is free and is the only connection between the two sections of the Carretera Austral. It only holds about 12 cars and a few motorcycles and bicycles. The crossing takes about 30 minutes.
December-March
In the main season the ferry runs three times a day. If the rush is too high, there may be more frequent trips than planned (e.g. in the evening).
From Puerto Yungay to Rio Bravo (north to south): 10:00; 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

getting there
The journey is from the north (Cochrane,Caleta tortel) on the Carretera Austral and from the south O'Higgins mansion by ferry from Río Bravo.
Shopping / kitchen
A small kiosk at the ferry terminal is the only purchase option. Here you can buy baked goods, empanadas or, in summer, delicious raspberry cream tarts. In addition, of course, packaged biscuits and sweets, but also staple foods such as rice.

There is a small chargeable camp site in the village. Cyclists can also stay overnight in the waiting room at the ferry terminal on request.
There are no real accommodations in this transit location.

The nearest hospital is in Cochrane. There are small doctor stations in Caleta tortel and O'Higgins mansion.
There is no mobile phone reception in the village, but Wi-Fi networks of the residents or the ferry station connected via satellite (as of 02/16).
