Pushkar (Hindi: पुष्कर) is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is 14 km (8.7 miles) northwest of Ajmer, at an average altitude of 510 m (1,670 ft). Pushkar is one of the five holy places of pilgrimage (dhams) for devout Hindus. Pushkar is one of the oldest still existing cities in India, lies on the shores of Pushkar Lake. The exact day of its creation is not known, according to legend, the city was created when a lotus fell to earth from Lord Brahma's hand. Where the lotus touched the earth, the holy Pushkar Lake and a little later the city arose.

The only Brahma temple in the world is located in Pushkar, but the city also has one of the highest temple densities in India. Once a year (October / November), the world's largest camel market takes place in Pushkar. At the same time, the Pushkar Mela is a religious pilgrimage festival at the climax of which thousands of believers take a bath in the lake, which is supposed to cleanse them of all sins.

Inside there is a life-size Brahma figure and the only shrine in the world where the deity is worshiped. The magnificent architecture, which is mainly characterized by marble, is complemented by art-historically significant murals.

  • Rang Nath Temple. Most modern and largest temple in Pushkar.

Once a year (October / November) the Pushkar Fair or Pushkar Mela takes place in Pushkar. This is a religious pilgrimage festival but also the world's largest camel market. Thousands of camels, horses and cattle are traded here every year. The Pushkar Fair is now co-organized by the Board of Tourism Rajasthan and there are many activities also for tourists. Of all the festivals in North India, the Pushkar Fair is certainly one of the most beautiful.
