history

Qantas was founded in 1920 as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited.

fleet

Qantas currently has almost 150 aircraft, of which around 70 are short- and medium-haul aircraft and 80 long-haul aircraft, plus around 60 small aircraft for very short distances that belong to the subsidiary QantasLink. The machines are all relatively modern.

Alliances

Qantas is part of the Oneworld alliance, in which American Airlines and British Airways are represented.

Route network and hubs

Qantas Airways discontinued the only route to Germany, Sydney – Frankfurt am Main, in April 2013, making it Qantas' only destination in Europe London, that from Sydney and Melbourne is approached. Most travelers to Australia either fly with them Emirates, a partner of Qantas from the UAE to Dubai and from there on with Qantas to Australia, or with a Far Eastern airline via e.g. Singapore to Australia. Qantas has a dense network within Australia and to the surrounding islands.

Classes of carriage

All Qantas planes have Economy and Business Class, many long-haul aircraft also have First Class and some long-haul aircraft have Premium Economy Class.
