Guilin (Zhuang: Gveihlaem, Chinese: 桂林; pinyin: Guìlín; Wade-Giles: Kuei-lin, postal pinyin: Kweilin; Zhuang: Gveilinz) is a prefecture-level town in the northeastern part of the Autonomous Region. Guangxi Zhuang ethnic group, China, west of the Lijiang River. The city's name means cinnamon forest, named after the cinnamon tree (Osmanthus spp.) that grows along and in the inner city of the town. People China consider Guilin to be the best place under heaven. The west is bordered by Liuzhou, the southwest is Lai Tan, the south is Wuzhou, and the southeast is Ha Chau. These towns are all in Guangxi. To the northwest is Hoai Hoa, to the north is Thieu Duong and to the east is Vinh Chau, all in Hunan province.

Guilin cuisine is known for its light dishes, using spices, especially chili. Guilin's famous chili sauce is made with fresh chili, garlic, and tofu. Guilin noodles have been a local staple breakfast since the Qing Dynasty and are famous for their great taste. Legend has it that when the Qing army suffered from diarrhea in this area, a chef made this noodle dish for the soldiers to eat because they were not used to eating local food. Especially horse meat noodles, but can also order noodles without horse meat. Banh zi (粽子), made from glutinous rice and green beans wrapped in banana or bamboo leaves) is another wonderfully popular dish in Guilin. Other signature dishes include turtle meat soup and hamster meat.
