History

History[edit]This land has officially belonged to China since 214 BC, when the Qin Army invaded most of present-day southern China. The name "Guangxi" originates from the Song Dynasty, when this area was organized into a road, called Guangnan Tay Lo. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the region was organized into a province with the name shortened to "Guangxi". For the next six centuries, Guangxi remained a province of China until it was transformed by the Government of the People's Republic of China into an autonomous region for its large ethnic minority.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, in Guiping County, eastern Guangxi, broke out the Jintian Uprising (金田起义) on January 11, 1851, the beginning of the great peasant rebellion movement Taiping Tianguo . Tran Nam Quan (today Friendship Pass) on the border with Vietnam was also the site of the famous battle of Tran Nam Quan (镇南关战役) on March 23, 1885, during the French War- Bar. In this battle, the French offensive was defeated by the Chinese forces of General Feng Zicai (冯子才), a historic event greatly celebrated by Chinese patriots.

After the founding of the Republic of China, Guangxi became the base of one of China's most powerful military groups: the old Guangxi Group. Led by Luc Rongting (陆荣廷) and others, the conglomerate reached out to control both the adjoining Hunan and Guangdong provinces. In the early 1920s, the old Guangxi Group failed, and was replaced by the new Guangxi Group, led by Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi. Guangxi is also referred to by the Bai Sac Uprising (百色起义), a communist uprising led by Deng Xiaoping in 1929. Communist bases were established, although eventually captured by Nationalist forces. People's Party annihilated.

In 1944 near the end of World War II, Japan occupied Guangxi following Operation Ichigo (also known as Operation Yuxianggui (豫湘桂战役) in an attempt to capture the Hunan-Guangxi railway line. and established a land connection with French Indochina. The Japanese won and a series of major cities in Guangxi became Japanese colonies.

Located in the far south, communist forces took control of Guangxi later. The provincial government changed in December 1949, two months after the founding of the People's Republic. In 1958, Guangxi was converted into Zhuang/Zhuang Autonomous Region at the request of Premier Zhou Enlai. This decision was made because the Zhuang are one of the largest ethnic minorities in China, and are heavily concentrated in Guangxi; however, the Zhuang people still make up a minority of the population of Guangxi. Throughout history, Guangxi was an inland (no sea) land. In 1952 a small part of the Guangdong coast was transferred to Guangxi, from where the land was connected to the sea. In 1955 transferred again, and in 1965 received again.

Despite the heavy industrial development that took place in the province during the 1960s and 1970s, there are still many tourist attractions that appeal to people all over the world. Even economic growth in China in the 1990s seemed to leave Guangxi behind. However, in recent years there has been a strong growth in crop industrialization and concentration. GDP per capita has grown rapidly as industries in Guangdong have to look for production sites in areas with cheaper labor costs.
