Countryside
The Reserve overlooks the escarpment of the East African Rift Valley. On the Ntchisi mountain, we have a breathtaking view of the valley, Lake Malawi and even across the lake on the mountains of Mozambique.
Flora and fauna
One of the last corners of tropical forest in southern Africa, the Ntchisi Forest Reserve is a paradise for rare birds, several species of monkeys, hyenas, small antelopes, civet, serval cat and many other small species. The flora of the rainforest, however, is the real highlight of this region of outstanding natural beauty.

At 1500-1700 meters, the climate in the Ntchisi Forest Reserve is cooler than in the surrounding lowlands, making it a welcome escape from the heat. It is also free from mosquitoes and therefore malaria.
To go
The most direct road from Lilongwe and one of the most beautiful dirt roads in the country is the one that connects Mponela and the Ntchisi Forest Reserve. The reserve is approximately 2 h road from Lilongwe and 1 h 30 from the airport, making it an easily accessible destination on arrival in the country. A four-wheel drive car is necessary during the rainy season.
Circulate
Entry into the forest reserve is free. The lodge lends a map showing the various trails which are correctly marked on the ground. No guide is therefore necessary to go on a walk.

Do
There are many marked hiking trails of different lengths around and on the Ntchisi Mountain. A guide can be hired at Ntchisi Forest Lodge who can also organize village tours or forest walks with a local traditional healer.
Ntchisi Forest Lodge can also organize tours of their community projects in surrounding villages.

It has a beautiful "tropical forest" bar open to customers who stay there. The restaurant is also reserved for residents. Only five bedrooms, campsite with sanitary and hot water possible. Reservations are welcome.
