The town Río Ceballos is located in the metropolitan area of argentinian city Cordoba. With almost 25,000 inhabitants, it is both an up-and-coming dormitory city and a popular travel destination, especially because of the reservoir La Quebrada.
background
Río Ceballos was one of the most popular tourist destinations in the province of Cordoba until the 1970s. Since then, it has turned into a dormitory city in the provincial capital. Nevertheless, tourism still plays a role.
getting there
By plane
From the airport of the city of Cordoba is Río Ceballos by bus from Intercórdoba and Ciudad de Cordoba to be reached in less than 20 minutes.
By bus
Río Ceballos is connected to the city of Córdoba itself around every 20 minutes. The buses from Intercórdoba (Red and Ciudad de Cordoba (blue) depart from Córdoba's central bus station. With the Intercórdoba buses there are two lines directly to the La Quebrada reservoir, one of which takes the direct route via Córdoba airport (approx. 50 min. Travel time), and the other via Villa Allende and Unquillo drives, which takes significantly longer (1 hour 20 minutes driving time). The Ciudad de Cordoba-Buses generally go through the airport, but do not reach the traffic jam; some of them continue to follow Salsipuedes, Agua de Oro and Ascochinga, smaller resorts north of Río Ceballos.
In the street
Best of all is Río Ceballos from Cordoba from across the four-lane Ruta E-53 to reach, which leads through the airport and costs toll from there. Cordoba itself can be reached from Buenos Aires and Rosario best of all via the motorway that has been expanded to form a motorway Ruta Nacional 9 (see also Arrival in Cordoba).
mobility
There are some inexpensive city bus routes. Most of them also serve the reservoir La Quebrada.
Tourist Attractions
The La Quebrada reservoir is not a scenic sensation, but a popular local recreation area. Despite the high number of visitors, nature is still intact. There are a few beaches on both the north and south banks as well as a small holiday complex with barbecue areas and shade on the western tip, which can be reached by car. The area around the lake is under nature protection, but there are some gastronomic establishments.
The starting point for visiting the lake is on the one hand a car park below the dam, where all bus lines end, and on the other hand the dam itself 300 m from the parking lot, just before entering the district La Quebrada branches off to the right and is not adequately signposted (however, it is the only road in this zone). Two paths lead from the dam: one on the north bank, the one up La Falda and on which there are some parking spaces and a fishing club with a beach (free entry) and bar, and one on the south bank that leads to the holiday complex, where the path to Cascada de los Hornillos begins; parking fees are charged here.
activities
Hiking in the area of Lake La Quebrada is quite possible if you will meet a lot of "fellow campaigners" in summer. The hiking trail to the waterfall is particularly popular Cascada de los Hornillos, 2 km from the lake. You have to cross the dam and then turn north-west. After about an hour (athletes can do it in 40 minutes) you reach the waterfall. Even more beautiful is a water pool above with a small waterfall, which can be reached via a steep but harmless path.
