background

climate

In principle, traveling in Morocco is possible all year round. The spring months between January and March are a very popular travel time due to the start of the flowering period. In summer it can get very hot in the southern interior. Then it is advisable to stay in the cooler coastal region. In winter it can get very cold in the mountains.

The passes of the High Atlas are impassable in winter. They can be closed until March / April due to snow and snowmelt. Autumn is preferred, with stable weather and pleasant temperatures.

The most beautiful narrow part of the gorge is about 30 km after Boumalne du Dadès at 1730 m. On half a kilometer, the 250 meters of steep cliffs are separated by just 12 meters. In between the turquoise green winds Oued Dades and the road.

One happens 3 Taourirt(31 ° 34 '51 "N.5 ° 53 ′ 6 ″ W.) until one shortly after one 2 Coffee shop left the junction after 10 Tizquin (Arabic:تيزكّين, Too Ait Sedrate Jbel el Oulia) reached. A little later you happen 11 Boumardoul N'imazighn and the valley narrows again. From 12 Tilout the road has to give way to the slope again. In M'Semrir the paved road ends. To Agoudal follows a partly coarse gravel slope (As of 2002If you follow the valley you will find the 2 km later on the right 4 Slope to Tamtatouche(31 ° 43 ′ 2 ″ N.5 ° 48 ′ 13 ″ W.) (as P7104 in Open Street Map). The slope is in poor condition and partly sparsely marked. It's about 50 kilometers over a pass (2800 m) according to Tamtatouche[3].

The R704 continues, past 3 Cafe Tayri, 11 Hotel Chez les Amis and 12 Asaka Auberge Camping and reaches 10 km after M'Semrir the place 15 Boujam(31 ° 46 ′ 27 ″ N.5 ° 47 ′ 2 ″ W.) On the right, the slope leads up the slope in steep and dusty serpentines. It is the most demanding part of the tour, both physically and technically. At the 6 End of the switchbacks, at 2531 m, the slope turns into a flatter slope crossing, which is 10 km away 4 Col du OuanoCol du Ouano (Q25119083) in the Wikidata database(31 ° 54 ′ 45 ″ N.5 ° 39 ′ 42 ″ W.) leads to 2910 m.

View from the Col du Ouano

Col du Ouano

At the Col du Ouano

The pass itself is inconspicuous. The road meanders through a rock passage without any elevation or crest. However, the views of the surrounding mountains and valleys are spectacular. The most beautiful vantage points are on the slope crossing.

Don't get up here too late. There are no overnight accommodations on the pass and the slopes up to Agoudal is steep and difficult and by no means suitable for driving at night.

If you leave the pass you will soon reach a few switchbacks. The slope seems to fall down the stepped terrain. Coarse gravel and sand make the tight curves dangerous. Some passages require courage, falling is not an option. Below 2400 m the terrain becomes flatter and you reach the river bed of the Assif Melloul and follow him up 5  Agoudal (2342 m) (32 ° 0 ′ 44 ″ N.5 ° 29 ′ 21 ″ W.), about 11 km after the pass.

From Agoudal is the street (R703) paved again. If you leave Agoudal it is 30 km before you reach the next village behind the Col du Tirherhouzine. The road follows a river bed lined with fields to the east out of the city and then swings south 6  Col du Tirherhouzine (2709 m) Col du Tirherhouzine (Q25119232) in the Wikidata database(31 ° 52 ′ 22 ″ N.5 ° 28 ′ 32 ″ W.) it is 19 km through a fascinating lunar landscape.

security

The route between Tilmi and Agoudal is technically demanding. In this section there are no supply options, but neither are there any help in the event of difficulties. At high altitudes, the nights without a tent and sleeping bag can be very cold. It is advisable to spend the night in Tilmi and start the pass the next morning.

In principle, the route can also be traveled in the opposite direction. Especially those who go further north, after Imlichil better to drive up the easier Todra Gorge than the slope over the Col du Ouano to Agoudal.

The crossing of the Col du Ouano, on the other hand, is significantly steeper and more difficult when coming from Agoudal.
