Ranfurly is a small town in Otago.
background
Ranfurly is in the Maniototo Plain, a hilly landscape in central Otago. The place was created during the gold rush around 1860, it grew through the railway line of the Otago Central Railwhich, however, like numerous other routes in the country, has since been shut down and dismantled. Around 1930, some of the art deco buildings that still exist today were built in the city.
The climate in central Otago is relatively dry and continental, with icy temperatures regularly occurring in winter. So it's not surprising that about Ranfurly Curling is a popular sport.
