Although actually for Canton of St. Gallen Belonging, think 3 out of 5 Swiss people Rapperswil-Jona belongs to Canton Zurich. The location of the city of roses (approx. 25,000 inhabitants) at the top Lake Zurich and the easy accessibility of Zurich with the public transportation (including by ship) are probably the main reason for this.
Many visitors let the cozy places on the lake promenade and the historic old town of Rapperswil "melt on their tongues" as part of a day trip. Many activities for all ages make a visit an unforgettable experience.
Rapperswil-Jona consists of the medieval town of Rapperswil and the rural Jona, which were merged in 2007, whereby the touristically interesting places mainly focus on the relatively small Rapperswil.
getting there
- In summer there is an hourly boat connection to and from Zurich
- There are several train stations in Rapperswil-Jona: Rapperswil, Jona, Blumenau and Kempraten. The actual main station is Rapperswil, right next to the old town on the lakeshore. The most important connections are the S5 and S15, which run every quarter of an hour in 35 minutes to and from Zurich drive. A trip to Zurich with the S7 along the "Gold Coast" in 40 minutes is also recommended Lucerne and St. Gallen the Voralpen-Express reaches Rapperswil every hour.
- There are motorway connections to the motorway 52 ins Zurich Oberland, and straight to the airport Balls and direction Chur-Bündnerland-Ticino. The other option is to arrive via the A3 motorway and then at Pfäffikon SZ over the Seedamm (high risk of traffic jams!) to Rapperswil. This route is suitable for travelers from the direction of Basel-Bern and Central Switzerland. However, due to the high level of traffic jams (especially at rush hour, Saturdays and when there is a high number of tourists when the weather is nice), the journey to and from Rapperswil is often difficult. Parking spaces are often occupied quickly.

Right next door on the Green rock basement stage Avant-garde cabaret can be seen on Saturdays from October to May. The Jona Culture Commission organizes various concerts and theater in the Restaurant Kreuz in Jona. In Rapperswil there is a studio film every Wednesday in Spectrum film meeting. The restaurant Bären is a very good address for rock / funk / punk concerts or simply for a beer during or after.
