Rattenberg is lying in Tyrolean Lower Inn Valley and with around 410 inhabitants it is the smallest municipality in Austria.

Ore was mined here from around 1420. The town is known as a center of glass art and for its completely intact medieval townscape. The monument protection office has to approve almost every construction measure.

The train station is less than five minutes from the center. Only regional trains stop.

Tourist Attractions

  • Above all, the uniform, historical cityscape with late Gothic and Renaissance houses (pit roofs and bay windows) is worth seeing.
  • Gothic parish church. 1473–1506, changed to Baroque style around 1730) with frescoes by B. Faistenberger and M. Günther.
  • Former Augustinian or Servite monastery (1385). With a baroque monastery church and stucco work by D.F. Carlone and Paolo d'Allio, today 1  Augustinian Museum.

The "Rattenberger Advent" takes place annually during Advent. On four Saturdays there will be performances outdoors. The whole thing will be moderated by one of the two well-known Radio Tirol presenters Martina Moser and Waltraud Kiechl.
