Rosenheim is on Inn and is an independent city near the Chiemgau in Upper Bavaria. With the proximity to the Chiemsee, to the Chiemgau Alps, to the Mangfall Mountains and with a historic city center, Rosenheim is an attractive travel destination.

background

Rosenheim became known throughout Germany through the early evening series The Rosenheim cops. The soap crime thriller has been produced since 2000, broadcast weekly on ZDF and passed the 300-episode hurdle in autumn 2013. The cityscape of Rosenheim does not appear too often as a film set, the Rosenheim town hall serves as a police headquarters.

The film ran worldwide Out of Rosenheim by the German director Percy Adlon from 1987 and others. with Marianne Sägebrecht and Jack Palance. The comedy takes place in the USA; the film title refers to the leading actress' answer to the question about her origin.

Districts

Districts of Rosenheim are Aising, Aisingerwies, Egarten, Endorferau, Erlenau, Fürstätt, Happing, Heiligblut, Kaltmühl, Kaltwies, Kastenau, Langenpfunzen, Mitterfeld, Oberwöhr, Pang, Schwaig, Wehrfleck, Westerndorf am Wasen, Westerndorf St. Peter.

Little chronicle

Shipping on the Inn near Rosenheim is first mentioned in 453. Already since the year 15 BC There was the strategically important road, customs and military station Pons Aeni (Inn bridge, also: "Ponte Aoni", "Ad Enum" or "Statio Enensis") about 5 kilometers north of today's city center. This Roman settlement was a stop on the important trade route from Iuvavum (Salzburg) with Cambodunum (Kempten) and later also with Augusta Vindelicorum (augsburg). The Inn was then the borderline between the Roman provinces of Noricum in the east and Raetia in the west, the Latin Pons Aeni lives to this day as "Pfunzen" in the district names Langenpfunzen and Leonhardspfunzen.

The name Rosenheim was first mentioned in 1232, and in 1234 Rosenheim Castle. Rosenheim has had market rights since 1328. There were city fires in 1469, 1542 and 1641, among others.

In 1560 Rosenheim was granted the right to trade in salt and to lose salt and subsequently became a major national center for the salt, lime and millstone trade. The phrase for Rosenheim as the "lard pit" of Baiern also originated from this time.

At the end of the Middle Ages and the Thirty Years' War, Rosenheim also suffered from the turmoil of the times with plague epidemics (1634), looting by the Swedes (1648) and pillage by the Pandours (1742/1743/1745).

In 1810 the first saltworks was put into operation in Rosenheim. The railway connection to Munich has existed since 1857. The train station, inaugurated in 1858, soon proved to be too small and was relocated to its current location 18 years later. Rosenheim received city rights in 1864 under King Ludwig II.

In 1865/66 the first iron bridge over the Inn was built as an arch bridge, the constructions until then were all made of wood.
