On the summit is the observatory of the Munich University Observatory with numerous antennas and other technical equipment, the Wendelsteinkircherl, and there is a restaurant at the mountain station of the railways. The built-up summit itself has lost some of its freedom and attractiveness, and mountain solitude does not arise with the mass influx of tourists. The attractiveness of the mountain is that view.

climate

Wendelstein group, panoramic view from the west

The climate at the exposed summit of the Wendelstein is almost two thousand meter high and is almost high alpine and does not necessarily have anything to do with the weather at the valley station of the mountain railway. Strong winds, rapid weather changes, fog as a result of the clouds and sudden thunderstorms are easily possible at the summit, especially in midsummer, the temperatures are always a lot lower in summer than in the valley area at the cable car station.

A windproof jacket or anorak and a sweater should be carried by anyone who wants to leave the protected mountain station of the cable car and climb to the summit. This also applies to hot days in midsummer.
