background

The pre-alpine region of the Miesbacher Oberland ranges from Mangfall Mountains from north to Mangfall Valley and from the west from the Tegernsee and the "Upper Mangfall Valley" to the east at the Lower Inn Valley.

Geographically, these are the valley systems of Leitzach with the Leitzach Valley, the Schlierach and the upper reaches of the Mangfall.

Politically, the region is roughly the north-eastern part of the Miesbach district.

Upper Mangfall Valley

The Upper Mangfall Valley begins Gmund, where the Mangfall rises from the Tegernsee, and extends to the Mangfallknie near Weyarn.

Leitzach

The Leitzach has its headwaters in the Mangfall Mountains and arises near Bayrischzell from the confluence of several headwaters. It flows through the Leitzach valley to Feldkirchen-Westerham, where it flows into the Mangfall.

Schlierach

The Schlierach rises from the Schliersee and flows north before it flows into the Mangfall north of Miesbach.
