Spitzingsee is a hamlet on the lake of the same name in the Schlierseer Mountains (Mangfall Mountains) in Upper Bavaria. Because of its easy accessibility from nearby Munich, the town and lake are a popular destination for local recreation in summer and winter.

background

The lake and the place on the lake are situated in a basin and are picturesquely framed by an almost high-alpine mountain backdrop.

Location Spitzingsee

From an administrative point of view, Spitzingsee is part of the municipality Schliersee. The hamlet is located directly on the lake and actually consists only of the church itself and the hotels and restaurants around the church.

Lake Spitzingsee

The Spitzingsee is Bavaria's largest high mountain lake, it is owned by the Free State of Bavaria: It is responsible Bavarian Lakes and Palaces Administration. The water quality of the lake has been considered to be excellent since a sewage disposal system was built.

Volume:2,049,000 m³
Scope:approx. 3.33 km
Wide length:approx. 300/650 m

The Spitzingsee is fed by two mountain streams (Lochgraben, Firstgraben), drained via the Rote Valepp into the Brandenburger Ache and the Inn.
