Miesbach is the county seat in Miesbacher Oberland and center of the foothills of the Alps from Tegernsee and Schliersee until Lower Inn Valley.

The city owes its name to its city stream, the Miesbach, derived from the dialect word "Mias" for moss.

The old town of Miesbach with the town square and Marienplatz is located in the valley and partly on a slope on the east side of the Schlierach.

Churches

  • cath. City parish church Assumption Day, built from 1786 after a fire in the previous church in 1783 during the transition from Rococo to Classicism in simple interior design without a distinctive architectural style;
  • St. Magnus Chapel
  • Ev.-luth. Parish church from 1908;

Buildings

  • Lock (Münchner Straße 1, today the land surveying office) built north of the city's oldest castle square.
  • Wallenburg Castle and Estate, first mentioned as a castle site under the name "Wallenburg" and destroyed by fire in 1467, a four-wing complex was rebuilt as a new castle after another fire in the 17th century under Count Johann Veit von Maxlrain. Three flights of buildings fell into disrepair again, in the preserved one
Particularly worth seeing inside is the knight's hall with stucco by Johann Baptist Zimmermann.
