Map of Fischbachau

background

Fischbachau, seen from the Birkenstein district

Fischbachau is located in a basin in the extensive valley floor of the Leitzach.

The first documentary mention takes place in the Freisinger "Liber commutationum et traditionum" around 1078/1080 by Countess Haziga (Hedwig), ancestor of the Wittelsbach family. The name "Viscpachisowa" stands for a meadow on the Fischbach. The place is also a farming village and is closely tied to the monastery.

After the end of the secularization of the monastery, Fischbachau became an independent municipality in 1811.

Today's community of Fischbachau was created in 1976 during the Bavarian regional reform through the merger of the previously independent communities of Fischbachau, Hundham, most of Wörnsmühl and a small part of the former community of Niklasreuth.
