Oberaudorf is a climatic health resort in Upper Bavarian Lower Inn Valley right on the border to Austria. The winter sports resort lies at the foot of the mountains of the Mangfall Mountains.

The first traces of settlement in the common area date back to the Bronze Age, Oberaudorf was first mentioned in a document as "Urdorf" in 780 and at that time it belonged to the Freising Monastery.

In the middle of the 13th century the place came to the Wittelsbachers and at the beginning of the 16th century with the whole area to the Habsburgs of Austria. During the Napoleonic era, Oberaudorf came back to Bavaria.

The municipalities of Ober- and Niederaudorf were created in 1818 as part of the administrative reforms in Bavaria. Today's political community Oberaudorf came into being on April 1, 1971 after a referendum from the two communities and numerous other hamlets.

The district Reisach , located near the Inn, was called "Urfahrn" in the Middle Ages and was a separate Hofmark, the name derives from "Urfahrer" for the ferryman, the "Überfahrer". The old Urfahrn Castle was built in Urfahrn to secure the strategically important crossing. Foundation date of Klostes Urfahrn is then October 14, 1731.

The districts of Oberaudorf and Niederaudorf are both close to the Inn and around two and a half kilometers apart, with the Reisach district in between.

Parish church of Oberaudorf "To Our Lady", inside

Reisach Monastery
