Innsbruck Airport is about four kilometers west of the City center in the Lower Inn Valley and is one of the largest airports in Austria.

Innsbruck's first commercial airport was opened in 1925 and then in the east of the city. After the end of the Second World War, it was moved to its current location in the Höttinger Au and in the west of Innsbruck city.

The airport operators are IKB (Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe) with 51% of the shares, the state of Tyrol with 24.5% and the city of Innsbruck, also with 24.5%.

In the street

All motorways are in Austria toll (Vignette - sticker!).

  • From the south / from Italy (Brenner, A13) Coming: at the Innsbruck-Bergisel motorway triangle, drive in the direction of Arlberg / Bregenz and then Symbol: AS Innsbruck West - Airport
  • From the west and east (Inntal Autobahn A12 Kufstein - Innsbruck - Zams) coming: Symbol: AS Innsbruck West - Airport
  • From the north (D) is via the Garmisch area (A95 from Munich) also the toll-free journey to Innsbruck over the Zirlerberg and further over the B171 possible to Innsbruck. The route from Munich is even a little shorter than the motorway route via Kufstein, but especially on weekdays there is also a lot of rush hour traffic.

At the airport, 1,500 parking spaces are available in car parks P1, P2, P5 and P7 and in the multi-storey car park, the first 30 minutes in the car park or in the multi-storey car park are free.

By train

The nearest train station is that Innsbruck main station, from here continue by bus (line F) or taxi.

The F bus line connects the airport with the city center every 15 minutes, travel time around 18 minutes.

Due to its valley location, Innsbruck Airport is very popular with many plane spotters because you can take spectacular pictures.
