Niederndorf is a resort on the eastern Innufer in the Lower Inn Valley, the community is thus on the Tyrolean Side of the Inn the here border river to Upper Bavaria is.

background

Prehistoric finds prove that the region was already settled in the Latene period (around 400 BC), and under the Romans an important trade route leads through the Lower Inn Valley. The village of Niederndorf was first mentioned in a document in 1230.

In 1504 King Maximilian I conquered the Kufstein fortress and Niederndorf with the lords of Kufstein, Kitzbühel and Rattenberg came to Tyrol. In 1704, during the War of the Spanish Succession, the Bavarians invaded Niederndorf and wreaked havoc, 42 houses were completely burned down or destroyed. In 1706, Niederndorf received market rights as compensation. In the years that followed, the border town of Niederdorf was again and again the scene of the Tyrolean struggle for freedom and the armed conflicts with neighboring Bavaria.

The first bridge over the Inn was built between 1926 and 1929.

Today, the place is predominantly rural, and due to its convenient location almost directly on the motorway, some industrial companies have settled.

In addition to handicrafts and trade, tourism also plays a role in the acquisition, the municipality specifies around 600 guest beds.
