The Rax Schneeberg Group belongs to the Kalkhochalpen and extends between Wiener Neustadt and the Semmering. It has the easternmost two-thousander in the Alps, the 2,076 m high Schneeberg. It is also the highest mountain Lower Austria and is located about 80 km south of Vienna. Of the Rax separated by the Höllental, the Schneeberg is considered the "local mountain" of the Viennese.

The Schneeberg has been accessible from Puchberg by a rack railway since 1897 (Schneebergbahn).
Since 1873, the 1st high spring pipeline has been carrying high quality drinking water to Vienna from the western flank of the Schneeberg.

1 Puchberg am Schneeberg can be reached by car from Vienna Via the A2 (Südautobahn) to the exit Wiener Neustadt West and continue on the B26.
