Reilhenette is located in the department of Drome in the heart of the country of Montbrun-les-BainsEtymologically the origin of the name is uncertain. However, the most probable hypothesis would be the Latin word "Rella" the plow which became "Relha" then Rellania around 1227 and finally Reilhanette from the XIIIe century. This land belonged to the Baronnies of Dauphiné until 1789. The Lord of Montauban was the bearer of the title of Lord of Reilhanette in 1276 then the line of "Mévouillons" and that of Dupuy in 1317 and beyond.
Understand
Built on a rock near the confluence of the Toulourenc and Anary rivers, the village has probably not changed much since the Middle Ages, dominated by the remains of its small fortified castle guarding the access downstream of the river. Toulourenc valley and its 12th century churche century almost intact. The preservation and restoration of the heritage of Reilhanette is one of the priorities of the municipality. The team is particularly keen to protect and enhance a village considered to be one of the most authentic and least disfigured in the region.
The heritage consists mainly of the church. It dates from the 12the century, its structure is Romanesque with a broken barrel nave. Its height above the main altar is surprising for a building of this type. It has of course undergone some changes but no major destruction. It was described to us in 1599 "in very good condition, well closed and stocked with all that is necessary".
The fortified castle or rather its still important ruins also date from the 12the century, its destruction is the fact of the royal troops in 1560, Reilhanette is part of the country of Montbrun-les-Bains, it benefits from its tourist development.
