The reserve was created to protect halophytes (salt-loving vegetation). A part of a low peat bog located in the Warsaw-Berlin Glacial Valley is under protection.
A significant part of the reserve is covered with rushes with common reeds, broadleaf cattail and manna Mielec. More than 20 species of halophytes have been recorded in the past in the meadow and pasture vegetation, includingherbaceous salt (Salicornia herbacea). Lack of use of pastures and meadows as well as drainage of peat bogs caused that a significant part of the halophytes became extinct. Currently, in the reserve, you can find: seaside milk jug, coastal rush, outlier manny, distended clover and Tabernemontan's slander.
In the vicinity of the village of Błonie, there are shallow layers of peat.
