Ribe it's a city Danish in the region of Southern Jutland.
To know
Ribe, the most important Danish port on the North Sea in the Middle Ages and later a thriving trading city, has lost importance over the past four centuries due to numerous floods and plague epidemics that have decimated the population. More recently it was the founding of the city of Esbjerg in 1870, it quickly became the west coast's most important port Southern Jutland, which ultimately stripped Ribe of its importance.
Today the city presents itself as an interesting destination for travelers thanks to its very well preserved medieval old town and the cathedral, also as a stop or for a longer stay, because there is a lot to discover in the immediate vicinity. In addition, the historic center of Ribe with its many small shops and boutiques also offers enough opportunities for window walks and shopping tours.

- 1 Cathedral (Ribe Domkirke), Puggaardsgade 22.
20 DKK for the tower, the church is free. It is worth a visit if only for the view from the top of the bell tower, which overlooks the entire town of Ribe. The view from above, of the city and the river that crosses it, gives a good impression of the medieval village. Rather simple interior in the Romanesque style with whitewashed walls.
- 2 Ribe Castle (Riberhus). It is not really a castle, but a collection of ruins, surrounded by moats connected to the river. However it represents a worthy archaeological and historical site: it was the home of the beloved Queen Dagmar, who was married to King Valdemar Sejr, and who according to legend fell ill and then died at the castle of Riberhus, but woke up from the dead to speak for last time with her beloved husband and king.
- 3 Viking Center of Ribe (Ribe Vikinge Center), Lustrupvej 4 (2 km south of the city), ☎ 45 75 41 16 11. A visit to the Ribe Viking Center will provide you with a unique experience and new insights into the Viking era. You can stroll through the life-sized reconstructed Viking villages, populated by actors you can work and talk with.
- 4 Danish Center for the Wadden Sea (Vadehavscentret), Okholmvej 5, ☎ 45 7544 6161. Completely renovated in 2017, the center hosts permanent exhibitions on the Wadden Sea but also organizes trips and walks along the coast and to the neighboring island of Mandø.
- 5 Fine Arts Museum (Ribe Kunstmuseum), Sankt Nicolaj Gade 10. With paintings by famous Danish Golden Age painters.
- 6 Ancient Municipal Palace (Det Gamle Rådhus), Von Støckens Plads.
