background

The town of Ribnitz-Damgarten is located at the confluence of the Recknitz in the Ribnitzer See, which is part of the Saaler Bodden (Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft). The place consists of the Mecklenburg district Ribnitz and the Western Pomerania district Damgarten, which were merged as a city in 1950 against the will of the population. The two districts are clearly separated to this day by the course of the Recknitz river.

Ribnitz-Damgarten has been officially allowed to join since 2009 Amber City name, a name that it bears mainly because of the local German Amber Museum.
