background

View of the harbor

Barth, on the southern bank of the Barther Bodden and opposite the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, celebrated the 750th anniversary of the city charter in 2005. With its city center, which was thoroughly renovated after the fall of the Wall, the market square with its many colorful houses, the imposing St. Mary's Church and the redesigned harbor, it is an attractive point of attraction for travelers in northern Western Pomerania. For several years, Barth has been considered one of the possible locations of the sunken city Vineta listed, and is also called based on this Vineta town of Barth.

activities

The main attraction is the harbor, where you can watch the sailors in summer and visit one of the cafes or restaurants that are located there. Walks through the renovated old town or bike tours into the surrounding area are also ideal. In the Barther Marienkirche there are regular tours, including some special tours, such as a "dark tour". In addition, especially in summer, classical concerts take place in various stores at the harbor and in the Marienkirche. The program varies from year to year.

shop

The most important shopping centers can be found on the (former) bypass, where you can get everything you need and also have a good selection. In the city center there are mainly small, often touristy shops, but they are worth a visit or two.
