Barth is a city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
background
Barth, on the southern bank of the Barther Bodden and opposite the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, celebrated the 750th anniversary of the city charter in 2005. With its city center, which was thoroughly renovated after the fall of the Wall, the market square with its many colorful houses, the imposing St. Mary's Church and the redesigned harbor, it is an attractive point of attraction for travelers in northern Western Pomerania. For several years, Barth has been considered one of the possible locations of the sunken city Vineta listed, and is also called based on this Vineta town of Barth.
getting there
By plane
Barth Airport is only suitable for small charter planes, but is used regularly, e.g. for sightseeing flights. The next major airport is Rostock Laage.
By train
Barth is the end point of the single-track railway line from Velgastwhere there is a connection to long-distance traffic. The Stralsund - Barth route is through the Usedomer Bäderbahn operated with modern low-floor rail vehicles, in which bicycles can be taken along.
The railroad tracks on this route are part of the earlier ones Darßbahnwhich led over the Meiningen Bridge to Prerow on the Darß. A resumption of the continuing route seems possible, but the responsible authorities have not yet made a final decision.

Walks through the renovated old town or bike tours into the surrounding area are also ideal. In the Barther Marienkirche there are regular tours, including some special tours, such as a "dark tour". In addition, especially in summer, classical concerts take place in various stores at the harbor and in the Marienkirche. The program varies from year to year.

The most important shopping centers can be found on the (former) bypass, where you can get everything you need and also have a good selection. In the city center there are mainly small, often touristy shops, but they are worth a visit or two.
