Urban centers
- Carmelo, Nueva Helvetia, Colonia Valdense - Colonial pastoral towns near Colonia del Sacramento.
- Colonia del Sacramento - It is the oldest city in the country in colonial style and heritage of theUNESCO. The río de la Plata separates it from Buenos Aires (Argentina). .
- Fray Bentos - Capital of the department of Río Negro. City that boasted one of the largest slaughterhouses in the world. Today one remains museum.
- Mercedes - Capital of the Soriano department. There Gimenez Picture Gallery and the Casa Puerta are art museums for which this farmhouse town is worth visiting.
- Montevideo - The capital of the country.

- San José de Mayo - Capital of the San José department.
- Vila Soriano — [2][link not working] Colonial architecture from the 18th century and the first European settlement in Uruguay. A famous cemetery.
Other destinations
- Estero de Farrapos National Park[3][link not working] - National park and a protected wetland area of international importance. It is considered the best spot in Uruguay to observe wild animals. Nuevo Berlín is a great base camp for accessing the park.
