Understand

Roberval was founded in 1859 by one of its early settlers, Thomas Jamme, who owned the town's first sawmill and flour mill. The name “Roberval” comes from the title of Jean-François de La Rocque, Sieur de Roberval, who was the first lieutenant general of New France. When it became a municipality, Roberval had around 250 inhabitants. Thanks to the forestry industry and agriculture, as well as the construction of the Quebec-Lac-Saint-Jean railway and the Hotel Roberval, the city grew. In 2018, Roberval had 9,949 inhabitants. It is the capital of the regional county municipality (MRC) of Domaine-du-Roy.
