The city and municipality Rötz is in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham 17 km northwest of Cham (Upper Palatinate) and 30 km east of Schwandorf located.

Rötz was first mentioned in a document in 1017 and has been a town since 1495. The name may derive from the Old Slavic word rêka for flow off.

By train

Rötz is Not more accessible by train. The Bodenwöhr – Rötz railway line was shut down and dismantled in 1994. The next train stations are in Cham and Schwandorf.
