Saguenay is a city in the Canadian province Quebec. It was created in 2002 through the merger of the cities of Chicoutimi, Jonquière and La Baie. It got its name from the river of the same name, which flows into the St. Lawrence River about 120 km downstream.
background
In the 16./17. JH lived the Algonquin in the area of what is now the provinces of Québec and Ontario. They told the French about one Kingdom of Saguenay, rich in gold and silver, and triggered a run on this fictional and never-found realm. However, the name of this kingdom has been preserved. The wealth of the region consists of the occurrence of bauxite, the production of aluminum as well as the timber industry and paper production.

The Saguenay River is navigable to the city of the same name. The city is often the destination of cruise ships, which then usually have their berth on the Quai de Bagotville. The bay in the district of La Baie has the beautiful name Baie des Ha! Ha!. If, as an exception, a second cruise ship arrives in this bay, the tender boats are used.
