St. Helier is the only real city on the Channel Island jersey and at the same time the main town. The administrative seat of the island is, however, in the suburb of St. Savior. The overlookable center offers many small shops in which almost everything can be found. The shopping mile in the pedestrian zone leads past the beautiful Victorian market hall, where the great colors and smells of local island products mix.
background
Historically, the city's first roots can be traced back to the 1st century C.E. can be traced back to when the Romans probably established a first settlement here.
