Characteristic
Geography
Due to their volcanic origin, the islands are mountainous. The highest elevation on the island of Saint Kitts is Mount Liamuiga volcano (1156 m above sea level), and on the island of Nevis the mountains reach a height of 985 m (Nevis Peak). In the south of the island of St. Kitts stretches over a long peninsula with a salt lake. The islands are divided by the Narrows. Coral reefs stretch along the coasts of the islands. The climate is humid, equatorial and cooled by the trade winds blowing from the northeast. During spring and summer, the islands are haunted by cyclones. The mountains are covered with equatorial forests. The lower lands are cultivated. Coconut palms grow both wild and in plantations. The animals are mainly birds, as well as fish and crustaceans.
