With all British ferry operators, the pricing is heavily dependent on the season and due to numerous special offers, even online, it is difficult to understand. 49.45295-2.5263751 Castle Cornet. One of the greatest attractions of Guernsey is Castle Cornet. The castle, which dates back to the early 13th century, stands on an island directly in front of Saint Peter Port. The castle can only be reached via a longer bridge, which was only built in the 19th century. Before the bridge was built, the castle was cut off from the rest of Guernsey at high tide. The castle was built in a place from which one has a good overview of the small town and a good view of the sea. The "Castle Cornet" served primarily to defend the island. It was also a prison until 1811. The castle consists of three levels. Immediately after entering the castle you will find yourself in the "lower level", which houses a cannon battery. After climbing one of the numerous stone stairs you are on the "middle level". This is much larger than the lower one and also has more to offer, such as the governor's garden, who in turn owned his residence on the "upper level". In the past, the "Upper Level" also contained a chapel, which was destroyed in an explosion in 1672, however. Next to the Maritime Museum, that brings the development of the port closer to the visitor, there are the following other museums on the "middle level": the Hatton Gallery, the Militia Museum and the No. 201 Squadron Museum. The “Noonday-Gun” is a little bit stepped from the “Middle Level”. Every day at 12:00 noon it is fired by a man dressed in traditional military uniform to classical British music. This is the highlight of the visit and should definitely not be missed. All in all, visiting the castle is very worthwhile.Open: daily 10 am-5pm, until 3pm in winter.Price: £ 10.50.last change: Jun. 2018
