Salobreña is an old town on the Costa Tropical in Andalusia (Province Granada).

The city of Salobreña consists of several different districts. The center is the Moorish castle on a steep rock, about 1 km from the coast. The old town with its narrow streets and typical whitewashed houses is also located on the castle rock. Below the old town is the new town, here you will find shops, restaurants, supermarkets and tourist information.
The coastline is divided by the rock "El Penon". There is a wide pebble beach on both sides. To the east of the rock is the holiday home area "Playa Salobreña". It consists partly of row houses, partly of apartment blocks. The houses and apartments are mostly in Spanish hands, there are no hotels or pensions in the settlement. Large fields of sugar cane stretch between the playa and the city proper. About 1 km west of El Penon is the "La Caleta" district around the sugar cane factory. On the hill several hundred meters above La Caleta are the holiday villas from "Monte de los Almendros" (Almond Hill). The "Hotel Salobreña" is still further west on a curve of the coastal road.

The nearest airports are in Málaga and Granada.

You can walk from the playa to the center in 15-20 minutes. On weekdays there is an hourly bus from La Caleta via the old town and the center to Playa. You need a car to get to the holiday homes on "Monte de los Almendros".
