San Antonio Oeste is a city on the Patagonian Atlantic coast in the province of Río Negro. It is best known for its export port, which mainly exports agricultural products, and the seaside resort Las Grutas.
background
The area around the Bay of San Antonio was discovered at the end of the 18th century and was not settled until a hundred years later. The city was founded in 1905 by decree. From 1910, when the railway line between Buenos Aires and San Carlos de Bariloche was built, the city initially picked up quickly. This boom did not last long, the port was closed again in 1944.
In 1982 a deep sea port was opened on the opposite side of the bay, which is now one of the most important in Argentina; from here the products of the industrial and agricultural region are shipped Neuquén shipped. By plane
The small airport Saint-Exúpery (5 km west, near Las Grutas) comes up with two regular flights per week with LADE. But thanks to many stopovers, they fly to numerous cities, including Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Santa Fe and Comodoro Rivadavia and are reasonably priced.
By train

By bus
You can get to almost all cities by direct bus. Some of them stop at the plaza in the city center, others near the train station in the central bus station, but most of them in the 10 km outskirts Las Grutas.
In the street
San Antonio is on the Ruta Nacional 3, the main road connecting Buenos Aires and Patagonia. The best way to get here from central Argentina (Córdoba, San Luis) is via national roads 35 and 36.

Tourist Attractions
The port district offers the typical Patagonian architecture, but is unfortunately a bit shabby. There is also a historical museum.
The deep water port San Antonio Este on the peninsula opposite the city Villarino is far more attractive than the small fishing port, but is 60 km away - because the bay of San Antonio has to be circumnavigated. After registering with the port authority, it can be viewed. In addition, almost untouched, idyllic sandy and shell beaches beckon in the vicinity, even if in Las Conchillas a brand new seaside resort is currently being built. There are buses to San Antonio Este three times a day ($ 4) - or you are lucky enough to be able to ride a local in a motorboat with a local at high tide, then it's only 5 kilometers.

You can swim in the bay of San Antonio, but the water only comes close to the coast at high tide. You can go for a mudflat hike in the bay - but of course you should know the tide table.

With the tourism in January and February, some crooks are usually imported as well. Even then, the city is not particularly dangerous. Every attack appears in the newspaper and is a topic of conversation for weeks.
