Tourist Attractions

  • 1  Fræðasetrið Nature Center, Garðvegur 1, Strandgata 1, 245 Sandgerði. Tel.: 354 423 7551. This scientific learning center is both a research facility and a museum. There is an exhibition about the polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot, whose ship Pourquois Pas was destroyed in 1936 and all but one of the sailors perished. There are original artifacts from the wreck and other memorabilia.
  • The stone built in 1887 Hvalsneskirkja, Whale Peninsula Church, is located about 7 km south of the village
