activities

Sanibel is best known as an ecological destination. Bird lovers and shell collectors make up the majority of visitors to the island each year.

  • Rent full-size bikes and mini-bikes and / or motorized scooters to see the island more slowly and take it all in at a more leisurely pace.
  • Rent your own excursion boats. There is a large public beach with the Sanibel Lighthouse at one end of the island and a large, quiet, covered fishing pier. You will be entertained by many pelicans and enjoy the company of pelicans patiently waiting for someone to throw scraps of fish onto the pier. A very peaceful, delightful place.
  • Fish (license required) from the shore or rent a charter. You can catch delicious whiting right in the surf on the beach in front of your apartment, cook it minutes or hours later and enjoy the best, freshest fish you've eaten in a long time.
  • Collect clams on one of the public beaches (any clam that has a live resident and any other type of live marine life, such as live sand dollars, etc. are not allowed)
  • Rent a kayak and explore the calm waters of Tarpon Bay
  • Play golf or tennis
