Sark is one of the Channel Islands.

To know

Sark (Sercq in French) is the most picturesque of the Channel Islands.

Like the others Channel Islands Sark enjoys ample autonomy and is still governed today according to the ancient feudal laws.

Geographical notes

Very small, 5.5 km in length and just 2.5 km in width, it appears divided into two parts, Grande Sercq to the north and Petite Sercq to the south. They are joined by a rather rugged isthmus called "La Coupée".

Background

The King Edward II of England (1284-1327) gave it as a fief to the Norman lords of Vernon. They were followed by the Carterets who ruled it from 1565 to 1715.
