Sarnen lies in the Central Switzerland between Lucerne and Interlaken, in an idyllic, wide valley with several lakes. It is the capital of the canton Obwalden, to which only seven political communities belong (Alpnach, Sarnen, Sachseln, Giswil, Lungern, Kerns and the enclave Engelberg). Sarnen is an ideal starting point for numerous excursions by train, car or bike (including to the Bernese Oberland, Lucerne or Engelberg); a variety of sports can be practiced here or in the immediate vicinity.
