background
Central Switzerland is the birthplace of the Swiss Confederation. The origins of the legend of William Tell can also be found here, more precisely in the canton of Uri, where there are still some historical sites today where the legend of William Tell takes place. The Hohle Gasse, in which Tell is said to have murdered the Habsburg despot Gessler, is also located in central Switzerland, namely in Küssnacht am Rigi, Canton Schwyz. The ruins of the Gesslerburg, which are also in Küssnacht, were never personally inhabited by Gessler. The cantons of Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden and Nidwalden form the original cantons of Switzerland, whose representatives took part in the legendary Rütli oath on the Rütli. The Rütli oath, which is said to have taken place in 1291, is considered to be the actual hour of birth of the Swiss Confederation.
language
Central Switzerland belongs to German-speaking Switzerland. The Swiss-German dialects spoken there are among the most original in Switzerland. The Uri and Obwalden dialects are particularly striking because of their archaic sounds and words. Even in remote valleys, such as the Muotathal in the canton of Schwyz or the Schächental in the canton of Uri, exceptionally rustic and typical dialects are spoken. In this respect, the Lucerne and Zug dialects differ greatly from the rest of Central Switzerland, as they are more Mediterranean and thus have less archaic corners and edges.

Tourist Attractions
activities
The region offers the traveler many options: relaxation, great scenery, historic old towns and boat trips, to name a few.
Numerous alpine schools (e.g. Engelberg, Braunwald and Andermatt) run mountaineering courses for beginners and advanced climbers.
Paragliding is also popular. There are plenty of take-off sites (Stanserhorn, Brände, Klewenalp) and schools that also specialize in tandem flights.
You can go sailing, surfing, water skiing, canoeing, rowing and of course swimming on the larger lakes in Central Switzerland, all of which have very good water quality.

climate
Central Switzerland has a climate that is mainly determined by the Atlantic, but also by continental currents, with relatively strong temperature fluctuations. The rainfall is distributed throughout the year. The wettest month is July.
The best travel time for tours in the high mountains is summer. If you want to get to know the country and its people, art and cuisine, you should travel in May, June, September or October instead of the main travel months of July and August.
