Schwyz is a locality in the heart of the Switzerland. Although it is actually a small town, it is used by the locals Schwyz village or sometimes Spots Schwyz called. The political municipality Schwyz consists of the village Schwyz and the three Branches mentioned smaller places Rickenbach, Ibach and Seewen.

Schwyz train station is in Seewen. There are direct connections from Zurich, Basel, Lucerne and the Ticino. From the train station you can take the bus to the center.

By bus

In the street

The Schwyz motorway exit (exit 39 of the A4 / E41) is also in Seewen. From there, the center can be reached in a few minutes. Travel time from Zurich: approx. 45 minutes, from Lucerne: approx. 40 minutes.

By bicycle

Schwyz is almost directly on cycle route 3 (North-South route) and 4 (Alpine panorama route) of Cycling in Switzerland, both through the neighboring village Fountain to lead.

  • Ital Reding-Hofstatt, Rickenbachstrasse 14. Tel.: 41 811 45 05. Just one of the many mansions from the time of mercenary services in Schwyz, which, as a residential museum, brings visitors closer to the splendor and wealth of the 18th century.   • hike: The main square is also the starting point for numerous hikes in the surrounding mountains. For those unfamiliar with the area, it is advisable to have a hiking map with you despite the good signage. A special experience is watching a sunrise on the Big myths (only recommended in midsummer). The best way to start is on a full moon night from the Holzegg (if you can walk well, you can do the route in two hours without any problems).
  • swim: On the banks of the Lauerzersee in Seewen is the seaside resort of the municipality of Schwyz. In midsummer the water temperature is often over 28 degrees. Those who prefer cooler water can go to Brunnen on Lake Lucerne.
  • sailing: The Urnersee is one of the best thermal areas in Switzerland. Watering in wells or Sisikon (for a fee). Guest places are available in the port of Brunnen.
  • Mountain bike: Countless tours can be undertaken from Schwyz: for example via Morschach, Sisikon up the Riemenstaldental and via the "Höchi" to Muotathal and back to Schwyz. Or you drive up the Ibergereggpasstrasse and turn left towards Holzegg, from where you can find your way back to Schwyz in front of or behind the Mythen to Haggenegg towards Mostelegg and Sattel. Another worthwhile tour leads from Schwyz via Lauerz over the Gätterli Pass to Gersau and from there back to Schwyz. The Bernerhöchi can also be reached via Lauerz, from there it goes left up to the Rigi.

  • skiing: Three ski areas can be reached from Schwyz in a short time:
    • Mythen ski region: By car about 10 minutes in the direction of Ibergeregg or by shuttle bus from Schwyz Postplatz. There are various day, half-day and multi-day passes with which between 3 and 15 ski lifts / cable cars can be used. Very family-friendly small ski area.
    • Stoos: You can get to the valley station by bus or car (in the direction of Muotathal) Schlattli the funicular to the car-free health resort of Stoos.   • Hölloch. With a length of over 190 kilometers, one of the longest caves in the world. In winter, various guided expeditions (from 7 hours to 3 days) are offered, in summer only the foremost expanded part can be visited.
